The Southern Highlands was officially declared a wine region in 1999 by the Geographical Indication Committee of Australia.
It is in the Wingecarribee Shire about 120 Kms south west of the Sydney CBD along the Great dividing Range.
The Southern Highlands has a broad range of vines including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Merlot & Cabernet Sauvignon. Cool nights and warm days with a dry ripening period sees the Southern Highlands region producing premium cool climate wines.
The Southern Highland is centred around the towns of Mittagong, Bowral and Mossvale with many villages surrounding these main centres.
With 16 public cellar doors, and many more available by arrangement, it is the perfect region for a wine tour experience. With the added benefit of world class restaurants and other eateries throughout the region it is also a great place to stay for the weekend or a week.
The Southern Highlands wine region is also closer to Sydney than the Hunter Valley and an easy drive from the M5 or M7 motorways. So why not come and get a taste of the Southern Highlands.
